Cancer, Covid, and Love Letters

Just as COVID shut down our lives I learned that one of my dearest friends had cancer.  This is the letter I wrote which contained a list of encouraging words. I created daily inspiration cards with the words and made a beautiful box to hold them. They were delivered by the US mail because I was in isolation (as was everybody). It was so helpful to me to find a way to “hug” my friend from a distance.

The letter:

If there's one thing I've learned in life it's to show up. Show up when babies are born, when something isn't quite right (but you're not sure what), and after funerals. Right now something's not quite right.

One of my dearest friends, Carie Starr is about to have a mastectomy and I'm writing because Carie and I created a list of women who might be interested in offering some kindness and healing energy during her recovery.

Here's how it works: You write back to me with two or more days that you are willing to send Carie a poem, a book title you've read, a favorite film, or a word or two that offers kindness. She's going to be sharing with all of us each day as well by selecting a word for the day and posting it online. If you can remember to focus on the word at different times during the day and think about what it means to you (or, if you know her well, to her) that will help to create a real connection that's needed right now.

So that's it. Just write back to me with the dates you can participate and I am going to keep a chart that willl hopefully get filled up. The first date is May 31st and we hope to have something sent by one of you each day until July 10th.
